Mom’s Flat Apple Pie: The Crispy, Sheet-Pan Classic

The Ingredients

For the Crust:

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Shortening or cold butter, cubed
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Egg yolk (beaten with enough milk to make 2/3 cup)
  • 1 cup Cornflakes, crushed (the secret to keeping the bottom crust crispy!)

For the Filling:

  • 8–10 Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Ground nutmeg

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp Milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
